Dave & Joyce's Great Loop Adventure
.... and other Bucket List trips!

Welcome to Dave and Joyce’s blog.  This blog was initially created to capture our Great Loop adventure.  However, it has now transformed into our “Bucket List adventures” blog.  Many people followed our Great Loop blog and have told us how much they enjoyed it.  That somewhat surprised us … and totally pleased us.  So we decided to continue the blog with post Great Loop trips … i.e. “Bucket List”.  We hope you enjoy our new adventures!

A note about navigating the blog:   Since the beginning, the blog was an active journal, updated daily whenever Internet service was available.  The latest information is always posted at the top of the blog page to make it easier for viewers to see our daily/weekly progress.  However, when viewing it later, the format is a little awkward.  For example, to see the pre- Great Loop blog, scroll down to the archive section and click on the last link July 2010 .  After the page is displayed scroll down to the bottom and begin viewing by scrolling back to the top.  This will give you a better sense of the trip since it is the true time sequence of our travels … we hope this makes sense … Enjoy!

Gilmartin Pool
Left our cottage today heading north.  We stopped at Brian and Linda's new Florida winter home before going back to Greencastle.
Gilmartin Inside
What a beautiful home!  We are so happy for them ... for us also since this may be an anual stop:-)   Friday we plan to go to the beach and on Saturday head home.  We should be back in Greencastle sometime Sunday.

John and Judy visited us this afternoon and the fishing team of Dave and Judy got skunked again:-(  Judy doesn't believe Lake Placid has fish in it.  So during happy hour Joe, Pepper and Darby proved her wrong.  Joe caught two bass ... one quite large.  Hmmm ... there must be something wrong with the fishing team:-)

After dinner John and Judy left so Dave and Joyce visited with Joe, Alice and the girls.  Very nice evening.  We don't get sunset views from the lake ... but who needs them with moonrise views like the picture at the right.  The moon reflection off the starboard (green light) side of the dock was gorgeous!

Birds, boats and beautiful sunrise

fish loving dogs
Dave thinks he has resolved the issue with images being corrupted, so he re-published the fish loving dogs picture.  Nice bass Joe!
rowing yacht
Rob and Angie's last day.  Rob rowing the yacht out to deeper water so he can fire up the massive engine:-)  Angie not helping and drinking on the job.  Hate it that you guys have to leave so soon:-(

Lake Placid murals
Daughter Angie and son-in-law Rob visited us yesterday and will be leaving Thursday heading back to cold-land.  This morning it is cloudy so we decided to visit downtown Lake Placid to see some of the murals.

Orange grove
Next we showed them last year's winter home, an RV park in Avon Park, and then on to the orange grove to pick up fresh orange juice ... and of course the wonderful non-dairy orange ice cream cones. Oh so good!   We found out that the ice cream is made from soy beans ... hell, probably grown in Indiana.  So a little bit of Indiana here in Florida!

To the left ... the sun is back!  Angie and Rob on Captain Dave's yacht ... with Admiral Joyce's permission.

bronco

Last Sunday we went to the Arcadia All Florida Championship Rodeo.  It was something to see.  NFL football players have nothing over these athletes when it comes to toughness.  We saw cowboys bucked, kicked and dragged by awesome, powerful horses.  It was amazing they could walk away ... well maybe limp away.  It was interesting to learn that the horses get graded as well as the cowboys riding them.  Above is a picture of the 1st place bronco saddle riding cowboy and horse.

precision riders
Above cowboys and cowgirls doing precision riding including the ole figure eight stunt where it looked like a collision was inevitable.  These folks can really ride!

It was also entertaining watching the support cowboys’ corral horses back to the stalls or rescue a cowboy from a bronco still kicking wildly.  These guys were awesome and very talented.

If you have never been to a rodeo, you owe it to yourself to see one.  We were impressed by the whole show.

On the lake Alice and Joyce
Joe and Alice took us on the" Lake Placid Loop".  So add one more loop to our experience ... makes 3 if we count the Lake Hootie Hoss Loop ... or is that considered a circle:-)   This lake is larger than it looks from our cottage and has many beautiful homes along its shores.  Unfortunately the photographer's pictures of the homes didn't turn out.  Above Alice and Joyce enjoying the view.
Joe sailing out
Joe bought a sunfish sailboat the other day so this is his second time out.  He is doing remarkably well having no sailing experience.  The challenge is going out with little room to tack.
On the lake Eagle
Above Joe points out and eagle ... actually there are two in the picture, but hard to make out.

Joe sailing in
He nailed it both times coming in.  Dave thinks with a little more practice Joe will be ready for the Lake Placid Loop using his sailboat:-)

Last night we tried a new recipe and it turned out so good that we had to blog it!  Potatoes Anna is thinly sliced yellow and sweet potatoes; alternating layers of each with butter and seasoning ... about 5 layers.  Then cooked a short time on the stove top and then into the oven.  Out of the oven, inverting the pan resulting in a beautiful dome of potatoes.  And it tasted as good as it looked!  Add slow cooked Weber grilled pork tenderloin, salad and red wine and wallah ... a very nice meal.  Looking forward to left-overs:-)

Boat bailed out

Nice day today, but very windy.  Joyce and Dave had to bail out the boat today and then lug it further away from the water.  The waves were filling the poor little thing up.  Oh well, it was good exercise.

Congratulations to the Cloverdale boys basketball team for winning the sectionals .... Go Clovers!!!
